Hundreds of Ukraine Supporters gathered near the Capitol for the Peace Rally
Hundreds of people gathered outside the California State Capitol on a Saturday morning. Not only Ukrainians but all indifferent to the war, people joined together to call for a no-fly zone over Ukraine and an end to Russian aggression against Ukraine. California's state and local leaders attended the demonstration to express their support and concern.
The Ukrainian American House organized the demonstration and gathered the community of the Sacramento area that shares the same values and believes that the war provoked by Russia needs to stop. The UA-House-sponsored event brought together lawmakers, military leaders, community members, and people from all walks of life to focus on the conflict invading every corner of Ukraine.
The US high-rank officials attended the Rally in a show of bi-partisan support for Ukraine. Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, Asm. Ken Cooley, Asm. Kevin McCarty, Asm. Jim Cooper and state Senator Jim Nielsen bound hands for a photo on the steps of the Capitol. Politicians addressed the crowd, expressed their concern about the war in Ukraine, and affirmed that the United States would support Ukraine during this difficult period. McCarty, Cooper, and Nielsen joined the crowd in chanting, “no-fly zone.”
California State Guard Brig. Gen. Peter B. Cross, commander of the California Military Department’s Youth and Community Programs Task Force, stood up in solidarity with the Ukrainian American House on the steps of California’s Capitol building. “We have been partnered with Ukraine for 30 years,” said Cross on the steps of the state capitol in support of Ukraine. “Not just last year. Not just this week. For 30 years.”
Among other local leaders who spoke at the event was Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg. “If Ukrainians need to come to this country, we welcome them with open arms. No question about it,” he said.
This Rally for Ukraine is very important. We thank everyone who participated and came to express support for Ukraine and its people in a joint effort to bring victory closer. Glory to Ukraine!
